I took on the task of installing Ubuntu Linux on my spare PC. At first I honestly thought I was going to have a heck of a hard time. But the install process surprised me. I really didn’t have to do much and it was comparable to a regular Windows install. I let the boot loader partition the drive and install Linux.
Upon booting into the desktop, it felt like a regular PC. I had FireFox and the ability to use Open Office and many other programs which made me feel at home.
I can see this taking off with Dell now offering Linux based PCs. If you’re interested in trying it out, head over to Ubuntu.com. You can choose from the desktop or server flavor. I did both and had a bit of a hard time with the server but with the desktop flavor, you really shouldn’t have any issues.
I suggest dual-booting though, or if you’re not too sure what you’re doing you can visit the official Ubuntu forum, here.
