Dell to scale back on promoting bare-bones systems aka cheap systems

Dell plans to revamp their sales strategy.  Dell currently sells insanely cheap computer systems, most often than not including a CRT monitor as well for around $299-$499 including shipping.  It seems that customers are getting upset at the pricing.  Being that a $299-$499 computer won’t fetch you much, it’s obvious that these computers that Dell is selling are mediocre at best.  Mediocre meaning Intel Celeron, 256MB of memory, onboard video + sound, just the most minimalist stuff you can think of.

I guess customers are getting upset that after trying to add a tad bit more memory, or a slightly faster processor such as a Pentium 4, the price starts to rise, really quick.

I don’t blame them for being upset but at the same time, you get what you pay for.  Dell was the king in cheap computers.  They undercut everyone, including other big time manufactures like HP and Sony.

Let’s see what they have in store for all of us as consumers.  I hope it’s only good, and nothing dire.
