If you have yourself a Sony laptop and it is running extremely slow and you’ve troubleshot the crap out of it, try going into the BIOS and messing with the touchpad settings. There is a known issue with the touchpad causing extreme sluggishness.

There are still massive amounts of bugs.
I bugged a bunch and many of them they said cannot be fixed until IE9. I think that’s a bit absurd if you ask me.
There is one that is keeping me from using IE8 full time. If you scroll using your middle scroll wheel on your mouse, the page tends to scroll down then back up and then down again. It’s a nasty bug that is going to plague IE8 into it’s final stages.
I just hope they figure out how to fix it as it is a PITA.
So I ordered 3×1TB 7200.11 drives from Newegg. I only now realized that the entire 7200.11 line of drives are defective.
I knew for a fact the 1.5TB drives had problems but that a firmware patch was released recently to fix this supposed problem.
From what I can gather, some people say the firmware update fixed it and others say the problem is still there.
I honestly only thought it was with the 1.5TB drives. I had no idea that the 500GB and the 1TB hard drives were also having problems.
I’m sorely disappointed with Seagate. They were once the cream of the crop around a year or two ago.
Here is a link to their support forum where you can see for yourself that many users are having many problems.
I’m so disappointed with Microsoft’s IE team in that they truly dropped the ball with Internet Explorer 8 and compatibility with some really big name companies such as Netsuite.
I used Netsuite for work and have been having no problems with IE7.
From the first beta that was released of IE8, I’ve had nothing but problems with using the drop down Javascript menus on the Netsuite.com website. I waited and waited. Then the second beta was released. Still not fixed. So I submitted a bug report and they said they need an account to get in there and test it. I gave them everything they needed to fix the bug. I don’t see how they could drop the ball like this.
I cannot obviously give them access to my Netsuite account since it is not mine. It’s my company’s. Anyhow, they should still be able to get one for testing purposes through Netsuite.
So if you are looking forward to using Netsuite and Internet Explorer 8, unfortunately they won’t work together.
Internet Explorer 8’s most recent release is pretty much the final build with some things being changed if they find really huge bugs. I consider this bug huge.
Oh well. Life goes on. I guess there is a reason why Microsoft continues to lose the browser market share they once had years ago. I think they’ll continue to lose more and more until finally they stop making web browsers. I’m pissed.
I installed Windows 7 onto my MacBook using VMWare’s Fusion 2.0 virtual machine software.
So far so good. It took about 10-15 minutes for the complete install. I’m in there looking around. It seems pretty similar to Vista as far as most of the GUI goes but it does seem speedier. Of course it would be a lot quicker if I had installed it via Boot Camp but seeing as I am using it through a virtual machine, it will be on the slower side of things.
I’ll update this post when I have more info.
So Mac World started today. Very interesting news coming out through the regular gadget sites. A new MacBook Pro 17” model with a non-removable battery is being released. The iLife/iWork suites are being updated for 2009. So far no word on if there is going to be any new updates to the Mac Mini which has been heavily rumored or if there is going to be a smaller more sleeker iPhone.
I’ll update as I get the news.
I’m disappointed with the lack of proper cleaning tools for 64-bit versions of Windows. There are so many great tools to use to clean out spyware and virus infections like ComboFix and SDFix. But unfortunately, they are not compatible with 64-bit operating systems. It is more and more common now that 64-bit OSs such as Vista 64-bit are being bundled and sold on almost all new laptops that come from stores like Best Buy, Office Max, Office Depot, etc.
As you all know, I work on computers for a living so I am here removing viruses and spyware day in and day out. But I do not have any worthy tools to help me with my virus and spyware removal on systems that come with Windows Vista 64-bit or even XP 64-bit.
Right now the only tools that I know for a fact that are compatible with the 64-bit operating systems are: Avast Antivirus and SuperAntiSpyware. I think Malwarebyte’s Anti-Malware program works but it may be a little buggy.
I’ll try to update this post if I come across any great tools that can be used to remove spyware from a 64-bit OS. Until then, let’s hope that the makers of all these great tools will somehow come up with a way and release 64-bit compatible programs.
Thank you for the great readership you’ve all given me throughout 2008. It was a very cool thing to experience. This blog received over a million hits within the last year. It’s growing each month, as more and more readers come out of the wood work looking for help with random computer problems that they come across. I assure you my help is not done yet. Although the blog is not frequently updated, I do come across various problems that others will surely need help with. I assure everyone that I will be here to write more and to help everyone out. You’ve given this site great success and in 2009, I hope for more success than last year. Thank you and aloha to all!
