Oh! And I forgot to add that all the Services I'd set to Automatic to try to fix this were restored to their default settings after my System Restore, so no worries there.

I've just encountered this problem; when I turned on my computer I couldn't get online, I was getting a new error message on startup that I'd never had before, and weirdly enough my Windows desktop theme had turned to the classic white with sharp edges and that odd early-computer-days font.

Unfortunately, I couldn't get online to try and find an answer, and I figured maybe one of my family members that got online before I woke up and managed to apply some changes across the board.

I tried a System Restore and got this alarming message that Volume Shadow Copy wasn't working properly. Of course, there was nothing that said where you could go to try and get Volume Shadow Copy working properly. I'd never heard of Volume Shadow Copy before, so I was kind of at a loss. It did however tell me to view my Event Logs, which...you guessed it...weren't working properly.

So I randomly started clicking things in my taskbar (lol) and eventually found my Services. They were all disabled, so I went through and read most of them, setting the ones that seemed essential to Automatic. Tried System Restore again-->closer, but still no cigar. It led me up to the Choose a Restore Point window this time before it told me that VSC wasn't working.

I went back to Services and set *everything* to Automatic, unless it didn't have a description (which made me nervous). I then did a full restart, and after that I was able to run a System Restore successfully, and absolutely everything I was freaking out before has been restored to normal, including the Windows Theme.

Although I went through an hour and fifteen minutes of pure panic, I managed to fix the problem. However, I still don't know *why* this happened. The only changes I've made recently are that I downloaded SFW in hopes of working with Flash (fail), and I downloaded the first half of a TV show I'd been wanting to see.

I wanna say great article, but you never got your problem resolved yet.

I had a similiar problem with an error that kept coming up. I normally dont believe in the internet products out there to actually work, but i tried a free registry scan from perfect optimizer, and it actually fixed the problem i was having and then some.

Ive been with it ever since.

I hope you find your solution

Take Care
