Problem: I am dealing with a nasty virus that attempts to create a dial-up connection and dial-out to some porn company.
So far, I’ve tried every single tool I can possibly think of. I’ve used AVG anti-spyware, SuperAntiSpyware, Spy Sweeper, ComboFix, SmitFraudFix, AVG Anti-Rootkit thinking it might have been a rootkit but it wasn’t and none have worked.
I even tried using KillBox to replace the file with a dummy file. This normally works; but didn’t this time! That was insane! I thought to myself, this is a really serious infection. I did a little Google search and couldn’t really come to anything concrete.
My next logical guess is that I messed up somehow and deleted a file or two necessary to delete these other files.
One file in particular, which I can recall off the top of my head was named: spoolw.exe. There are a few others relating directly to this file as well.
I’m about to go into work and see what I can do. If I can’t figure this out by today, I’m going to have to do a nuke/repave. I will update this post a little bit later.
I am working on a friend’s computer and whenever I tried to shut the computer down, I would get this message indicating “The Exception Breakpoint” and some other stuff about a “Bad Image.”
I then tried to uninstall Zone Alarm and got the same damn message.
I tried so many different things but could not put my finger on it.
Then I realized that the error had to do with Zone Alarm.
How did I fix it?
I went ahead and went to the preferences tab and then checked for updates. I downloaded and installed the newest available update, installed it, and rebooted. Once this was completed, I could then shut Zone Alarm down as well as uninstall it. The error messages also went away.
What a pain in the damn buttttt.
The last time I talked about this I mentioned how both pairs of my DDR1 PC4000 Ballistix memory died in sequence.
Well, it happened again. Last week my work pair died and then just a few days ago my home pair died.
This time, I have finally given up. I give up on the Crucial Ballistix DDR1 (I am not giving up entirely on Crucial).
They have a major design flaw and this is the reason why they took it off the market for a short period of time. I guess they thought they fixed it or that the demand was overwhelming and worth the multiple RMAs that they were going to incur. Personally, it isn’t worth it. It isn’t worth the down time anymore. I went out and bought two pairs of the regular PC3200 non-ECC/non-registered memory for my work and home box.
What will I do with the other two sets of Ballistix? Truthfully I don’t know. I will probably just sit on it and use it in machines that aren’t important to me lol.
