Submitted by on Wednesday, 4 April 20073 Comments

If you are receiving this error message: An Access Denied error was returned while attempting to change a service, You may need to log on using an administrator account to make specific changes,” you will want to do this:

1.  Go to regedit via start..run…regedit

2.  Export registry to make a backup (in case something goes wrong!!)

3.  Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/Pml Driver HPZ12/Start

4.  Right click and select modify

5.  Change value to 4 for disabled (or 3 for manual…I did 4)

6.  Restart computer

Hi, I just red this topic, and after reading it, I decided to give it a whirl. I tried to look for:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/Pml Driver HPZ12/Start

But once in the ‘Services’ I noticed that I don’t a ‘PML Driver HPZ12′. Thought I do have a Lexmark 8300 Series on another computer, and I am also connected to the same printer via the network, though I didn’t install no program for this printer

Ihave the same problem now on two computers and have had it two or three times before that. Recently on one of the current two, I was able to stop the error message by uninstalling the McAfee Security Center software provided free to subscribers to comcast.net service. I haven’t gotten to trying it on the second system.
I’ve used several antifirus and registry cleaning programs. None of them was of any help on either of the current machines.

It was already set to 4 (Disabled) Any other thoughts. On a added note even though it SAYS access denied, it goes ahead and makes the requested change.
