Gateway MX6440 notebook modem and sound driver problem

Submitted by on Thursday, 8 February 2007140 Comments

I was working on a Gateway MX6440 series laptop and I had to do a clean install.  After installing Windows I did the normal routine, try to install the drivers.  I normally hit the homepage of the laptop manufacturer to get the most current and legit drivers.  I found all but two drivers.  The audio and the modem driver did not work.

The audio driver, come to find out, is a two step process.  First you have to download the Realtek driver and then once you do that you have to download the ATI sound bridge driver.  Next, the dial-up modem driver.  No matter what I did I could not get the driver to load.  I finally gave up and contacted Gateway’s chat tech support.  The tech support agent took control of the unit and eventually went to an unofficial EMachine/Gateway website which listed all the drivers.  I was then able to download a driver pack that included the modem driver.  Once I did that, ran the executable, the driver installed fine.  Here is the driver pack in case you need it.

I have a gateway vista laptop model Mt 6705 and I did a clean install, but I cannot get the mass storage controller to install, I went to gateway and have tried over and over, it won’t extract. when you click on yes, it just repeats the popup over and over, if you keep doing that it seems to look likes its extracting and then closes. This computer has been a nightmare! any help would be appreciated, thanks

Hey for those of you having modem troubles I used the Lucent Softmodem driver built into windows and the exclamation point is gone

Thanks, I found all the drivers needed here. Even DriverGenuis could not find all the drivers. Let alone Gateways own website…

Brilliant ! Hours wasted on Gateway’s website and searching and searching I finally arrived here and these have worked fantastically on my Gateway MX 6436 Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.
It’s a Shame that Gateway couldn’t put these on their website (or even just put the right drivers up).

I’ve probably spent 20+ hours searching trying to figure out how to get audio back on my laptop. I have this same model and had the same problem. I’m not tech savvy, but I typically can figure things out slowly. After trying 200 different solutions, I finally stumbled onto this link via another website forum post. THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH! What better day to figure it out on than Christmas at that. I can’t thank you enough! My sound is working and it is beautiful. Can’t believe Gateway’s own drivers section was leading me the wrong way for so long.
