I just had to replace an LCD in a Sony FS760W laptop. Trying to remove the LCD’s casing which splits into two and sandwhiches the LCD between it is a bitch. There were two clip like devices in the upper portion of the LCD casing that broke off. Also these stupid casings aren’t readily available for ordering either. I have been contemplating taking pictures of the disassemblying and putting them up here as a guide so others can figure out how to do their own things with their laptops. I just have to buy a case for my digital camera and once that’s done I’ll probably bring it in to work more often so that I can take pictures of what I am doing.

Anyone heard of Japanese Industrial Standard screwdrivers? Basically they look exactly like a regular Phillips screwdriver but it fits much better into JIS screws. If you’ve came across Japanese parts that were manufactured by say Sony, Panasonic, Toshiba, etc, you may have noticed that your #00, #0 or even your #1 did not fit quite right and may have slightly cammed or stripped the screw.
Let me tell you how I started on my quest to find out about one particular screwdriver and how it leads to my understanding of the JIS standard.
I work as a PC Tech and I had a co-worker who had this “Toshiba” branded screwdriver which was given to him by someone at his previous employer. He fixed printers and computers at Comp USA and was certified from Toshiba. I guess it was just a little gift that was given to him but this screwdriver he had fit ANY and all screws we came across in the shop. This screwdriver, if I had to guess the size, was either a #1 or a #0. He and I both were dumbfounded as to where we could find one just like it. That is when I started to search the net and found out about JIS.
I first learned that supposedly Snap-On screwdrivers are made to the JIS standard. I bought a #1 size and it fits a lot of the screws for the most part, and here are a few pics of the Snap-On screwdriver.
Supposedly the JIS Phillips screwdrivers have a flatter point than regular Phillips screwdrivers. This is kind of where I got confused. I went out and bought another size Snap-On, size #0 and this screwdriver does not fit a lot of the screws that I come across. I don’t have any pictures but can take some later and post them on this post.
A few months into my research I found out about a company called Vessel which is located out of Japan. I found a vendor who sells their products in the USA. I recently (two days ago) purchased an entire set ranging from #00 to #2 sized Phillips (JIS) screwdrivers. I should be receiving them in two days. I will have pictures up to show you what a “JIS” standard screwdriver looks like.

I could not find much information about JIS and about what the differences are between Phillips and JIS standard other than a flat tip on the JIS screwdrivers which lead to better contact with the cross faced screw. I hope that this will help you out with your research if you are ever trying to find out about different types of screwdrivers.
Problems installing the video driver for a Sony PCV-RX752? Well you’ve come to the right place. I installed a new PSU and had to do a clean install of Windows for a client. I installed Windows using an OEM disc and the client’s CD-Key. Therefore, I was left to find the drivers individually by going to the Sony.com website. I put in the information and got whatever drivers that were available. I attempted to install the display driver but each and every attempt it kept saying that this is the first time you are installing this and it has not been installed before. After several attempts and several searches on Google I finally found something over at Experts-Exchange.
Download this file and use this to install the display driver for your Sony PCV-RX752. It is not widely known that there is a problem with the driver on the Sony website or not many people have this computer. But I hope that this post will help you fix your computer that much quicker.
Just wanted to post an update but I camea cross a V Premier desktop which had a SiS 650 chipset and for some odd reason or another the video driver that I had would not install and produced the same problem with the Sony which was that it says it could not start the device. I tried this driver that I have here for download and sure enough it worked. So I’m guessing any SiS 650 chipset computer should be compatible with this driver set.
People were saying the bus was going to be saturated and that my hard drive 7200RPM would not be able to feed the drives constnatly so the drive would be buffered out. They were wrong. I tried it last night using Alcohol (two instances) and burnt two DVDs at one time with no problems or slow downs. It works people, first hand experience here.
Man, the lines are getting crazy. All just to get one PS3. Well… then again, the chance to take that PS3 and make about a $1000+ profit off of eBay.com, I guess the wait is worth it.
Apple’s iPhone has been confirmed Foxconn a tech tradeshow located in Taiwan. It looks like they have secured the creation of roughly 12,000 units [Apple through Foxconn]. All these rumors we’ve been hearing should be fruit in the very near distant future. I’m wondering what carrier this phone will be used with. My guess would have to be Cingular.
Apparently Microsoft has struck a deal with CompUSA which will let small business owners purchase Microsoft’s new operating system Windows Vista on November 30th. This deal is for five licenses (full/upgrade) and will cost roughly $300.00 + tax. I am wondering how hard it is to sign up at CompUSA to become a small business member. I am guessing something like a GE tax license will be required or something to show proof that you run or own a business. I may try this if I can get my GE license before then lol.
To those lucky enough to actually have some money saved up for this up and coming Black Friday, I present to you, http://www.bfads.net/.
If you don’t already know, Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving, the day when most stores start off their holiday sales events. The twist is, on Black Fridays, most retailers offer a one day sale on certain items. Last year I recall Wal-Mart selling a laptop for around $300.00. The laptop wasn’t the greatest but for someone like your family member who is just in high school or will use it solely for web surfing and word processing, it was more than enough.
This year, I haven’t really found any good deals yet although I know they exist. I don’t have money hence the reason why I haven’t really found anything great. I always tell myself next year, save save save so that I can cash in on Black Friday. I’m sure some of you will and I hope that this link to Black Friday Ads will help you with your shopping this year.
I just signed up for www.reviewme.com. This new site pays bloggers to review certain products or services. First things first, with Review Me, they do require that you disclose that your review post is an actual paid review – no more being discreet. If you’re interested in utilizing this service with your blog, sign up here.
There are a few guidelines you have to follow, your review must be two hundred words in length and like I mentioned in the previous paragraph, you have to state that you are posting a paid review.
I was actually referred to www.reviewme.com through www.digg.com. It was on their front page on November 11, 2006. According to the Digg posting, there were quite a number of people who did not get accepted into the Review Me program. I believe they base their criteria on your blog’s Alexa ranking, and the amount of subscribers as well as traffic.
The Review Me site is very intuitive, easy to navigate through and very easy to use. This is something totally new to me, although I do use various other methods of online advertising this is a first. It looks and seems very promising though. If you’re interested, I definitely recommend giving Review Me a try. It doesn’t hurt to try, does it?
Anandtech has reviewed the new nVidia 680i motherboard which is for the new Intel C2D processors (socket 775). It seems the main reason why nVidia released a new chipset/motherboard is due to the predecessor failing to overclock well for the enthusiasts crowd.
