IntelliPoint 6.0 problems/bugs

A few days ago I started to notice what seemed to be certain programs refreshing itself over and over again.  I finally came to the conclusion that it’s related to the new IntelliPoint 6.0 software that came with the new IME3.0.  Once uninstalled, the program no longer exists.  What a strange bug and I hope that it can be patched soon.  It’s extremely annoying trying to work on something in Excel when the page constantly refreshes itself over and over again.

Alright, I can confirm for sure now that the problem with what seems to be part of the page refreshing itself or redrawing itself is due to the IntelliPoint 6.0 software that comes with the new IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0.  This thing is buggy!  I was just reading online about previous versions and they’re just as buggy!  But this one seems to be really bad.  I am guessing that no one else has really complained about it because this mouse is not widely available so nor is the IntelliPoint 6.0 software, yet.  We’ll just have to wait and see and hopefully this will come to the forefront.  I just wish I knew who to contact within Microsoft to report this bug.

I can’t imagine why they wouldn’t catch this sort of thing internally when this is a pretty big bug.  You won’t lose data, it won’t expose your computer to hackers but it will definitely annoy the heck out of you if you don’t know what is causing it and how to stop it.

If you are experiencing this and came from Google by typing in IntelliPoint 6.0, please leave a comment in regards to this.  Thank you!

Update:

So apparently not many others can duplicate this problem.  The only other thing I can think of that is causing this is having Office 2007 Beta 2 TR installed.  Yes, it’s a beta.  I attempted to recreate it on another computer at work and it didn’t seem to happen until I installed Office 2007.

I’m going to go in tomorrow and uninstall Office and see if it happens with Outlook Express.

It’s very hard to explain what is happening but if you have Outlook Express and if you use it for newsgroup reading, if you click on the Headers icon, you briefly see the area where all the subjects are displayed kinda refresh/flash for a millisecond.

Sony desktop w/new hard drive; unable to do system recovery

I’m attempting to install Windows using the client’s recovery disks onto a new 250GB hard drive that the client provided.  My first attempt ended up with the recovery program hanging at the creating partition portion.  I then decided to remove the drive, put it into my computer, create an NTFS partition and format it.  After doing that, I put it back in and attempted to do the recovery one more time.  This time I was given the choice of doing just the C: drive or doing a custom recovery.  I decided for the former.  It goes all the way through, asking me for CDs 1-3 and then at the very end once it’s done, it tells me to press any key etc to reboot.  Once it reboots itself it comes to a black screen with the words PRESS ANY KEY TO REBOOT at the top of the screen.

I’m at a lost right now so I’m just posting this up for anyone who may search for the terms through Google.  The only other way that I was able to fix this before was to reinstall Windows (using an OEM copy) and then going ahead with the system recovery.  I’m going to do that tomorrow and I’ll post back how it turned out.

Seasonic M12 series power supplies now in stock

Seasonic has released their long awaited modular power supplies in 500, 600 and 700 increments, respectively.  Those things are beasts.  I’ve seen one review but it was taken down; however scouring many forums, I’ve seen nothing to indicate that these are less than stellar power supplies.  These things are I believe direct replacements for the S12 line, the only difference mainly being efficiency as well as the cables being modular.

I hear if you have a local Frys in your town to check them out first as they have the 700W PSU for a little under $200.  Newegg is selling the 700 version for $209.99 as of 10/3/06.

IIRC, the new Corsair power supplies which are modular are actually re-badge Seasonic PSUs.  If I happen to come across a review or two I’ll definitely post it here.
