Canon announced new cameras for their PowerShot line, the models are the SD800 and the SD900. Just when I was thinking about buying the SD700 which has dropped in price significantly (now I can see why), they go and release the SD800 and the SD900.
Apparently the SD900 will feature Digic III as well as 10 megapixels. This item should be available for sale on October 2nd, 2006, according to Amazon.com. The starting price is $499.99. IIRC that was the exact price the SD700 started out at and now it’s dropped a few hundred dollars. If only DSLRs dropped in price like that so quickly. Anyway, the SD900 will have 3x optical zoom, a 2.5” LCD display and a titanium body with curves similar to that of the rest of the SD series of cameras. ISO options will be from 80 up to 1600. And last but not least, this camera will support Secure Digital cards larger than 2GB.
The SD800 will be a 7.1MP digital camera, with image stabilization as well as the same support for larger capacity Secure Digital cards. The SD800 will retailer for $399.99, a hundred less than the SD900. You shave off a few MP and call it a day, I guess.
I’m torn now, it’s like I want to have thee camera, the best one that is available and I thought that it would be the SD700. Now it’s being basically trumped by these new guys. Choices and decisions await me. However, I hope that once these two cams are released, the price of the SD700 is driven down even more.

Last month it was made known that Microsoft was re-releasing their flagship gaming mouse, the Intellimouse Explorer 3.0. I had my eyes set on buying this dang mouse because of how good the older models performed and felt in my hand. I have a x08 model from a few years ago that I still use at work.
I had my eyes set on several stores that usually carry this type of product. I also realized that as of September 21, 2006, that was supposed to be the release date of the IME3.0. I searched and scoured and to no avail, I found no retailers or even online stores that had this mouse in stock.
My luck changed on Monday. For some strange reason I went over to Amazon.com and typed in Intellimouse Explorer 3.0. Sure enough, there it was, the black version, and it was for sale. If you attempt to search for this mouse as of today, 9/28/06, the mouse is set back to pre-order only. For some strange reason, reasons unknown to me, I was able to order four of these mice. I was extremely surprised to find out the next day that the status had been set to pre-order only. I was thinking oh man, they messed up and that I would not receive my mice for another couple of days/weeks.
That was until I received a confirmation that my order had shipped! Sure enough, two days later, I have four of these bad-boys in my hands as I type this. I bought four because who knows if or when Microsoft will pull this line again. They were stupid enough to do it once, I’m sure they’ll do it again. This time though, I’ll be sure to stock up a whole bunch.
The ergonomics and feel of the mice is unchanged. It feels exactly like how I expected it to feel and the same way my other IME3.0 at work feels. The color is black, the feet is now Teflon, those are about the only two major changes to the mouse. I feel that this was a great step. I’m glad they didn’t try to move side buttons more up like the Laser 6000 mouse. They did not screw up this time. They got something right!
So if you’ve been searching for an IME3.0 for some time and been scouring eBay looking to pay up to $100 shipped for another IME3.0, fear no more. I know for a fact www.buy.com has them in stock and are shipping it and so are several other e-tailers. You should be able to find them in B&M stores within a week or two. I’ve heard October 4th as the date that it will be available at most B&M stores.
If you have any questions for me leave them in the comments, I’ll be sure to answer them.

New iPod Shuffle
I think I want to buy this new iPod shuffle. I last owned an iPod nano which I broke in an angry rage. I never really filled that entire thing up (2GB) nor did I listen to every single track that was on there. My main reason for buying another one is to take when I go on my runs/walks.
I can pre-order it from Amazon.com for $79.99 with free shipping which really isn’t that bad. It has a new design from the first generation of shuffles. I’m not sure if I like it. It’s still extremely small/compact but having it the shape/style of a matchbook suit my needs as opposed to having it shaped like a pack of gum?
I so want to pre-order this and the new Microsoft Habu mouse. Damn, I need to work some overtime.

I tried for several hours to try and get this unit’s Windows firewall to be enabled. No matter what I tried, and I tried several fixes, nothing seemed to help or fix the issue at hand. I tried the netsh winsock reset. This did not fix the problem. In fact I tried it several times. I tried making sure certain registry entries were there, I tried resetting this and that, nothing worked. I’m wondering where did I go wrong. I can no longer spend exorbitant amounts of time on this type of problem as I’m the only tech available to work on a slew of jobs. Therefore, I am pretty much forced to limit how much time I put towards a stubborn problem such as the one I encountered today.
I would love more than anything to have fixed it by researching and trying countless fixes but unfortunately, I can no longer stick to that regimen and I have to move forward.
Perhaps you, though, can help me. If you figured out how to fix this damn problem, please feel free to contact me at randomfix AT gmail.com. Thanks!

I’m probably going to invest a lot of $ into these two mice. I’m going to buy cases of each so that when they discontinue it again due to stupidity, I will have enough for about until I die. I can’t wait. I’ll be buying several per paycheck.

As you may or may not have heard, Duane “Dog” Chapman was arrested along with Leland and Tim Chapman for arresting the Revlon heir, wanted at the time fugitive, Andrew Luster. This guy was a sick fuck. He date raped many women and even videotaped the accounts. That is just sickening! And to hear Dog was the one who took this prick off the streets just makes me smile inside and out. But to hear that Mexico wants him extradited back to Mexico on a misdemeanor charge, that’s just ridiculous!
Dog’s wife Beth had said that it seems like there was some type of tradeoff with Mexico or that someone was paid off in order to have Dog sent back over there for something so small!
I’m watching this case closely and I hope to update you all on any details if any that arise out of here, Honolulu, HI.

Microsoft release their Office 2007 Beta 2 Technical Refresh which is probably one of the last public updates that we’ll see before it gets to RC or gold status.
I want to say that Microsoft has broken quite a lot of features that I use on a daily basis. First and foremost, the ability to choose what font you see when you read any and all RSS feeds has been broken. Prior to the technical refresh, I had all of my RSS feed fonts set to Verdana, size 9 via Microsoft Word. Now even with the change in Microsoft Word, it does not take over in the RSS feeds like it has in the past builds. I’m very disappointed and some of you may think of this as petty but to me, it’s something that they broke without any word or any reason. This is what also saddens me. There is no way for a regular joe blow like myself to let them know hey, this feature was great, why don’t you leave it instead of breaking it or removing it?
The only way you can get to tell them this and actually have them listen is to become a beta tester. We all know how hard that can be. It’s next to impossible unless you actually got chosen a million years ago when Office 97 first came out.

I had no idea that these were released in the US. I could have sworn they were just released in Europe but only in Europe. I took a picture with my camera phone. Take a look.

Update: Aparrently this was released just two days ago in the USA. I had no idea but found out via a forum. That is great to know as I plan to pick up a white one and a pink one (for my wife of course).

It’s been almost five years since 9/11 happened. Within that five years we’ve gone to war with two countries and almost at war with another, Iran. The things that happened on 9/11 changed all of us, forever. I bet and can imagine that some of you out there have lost relatives to the fight in 9/11 be it due to the 9/11 attacks or having a family member/friend fighting in Iraq/Afghanistan. I feel your pain.
We’re almost at the eve of 9/11, how have things changed over these past five years? For myself, it has made me open my eyes to new things. I’d have to say politically I’ve actually gotten more involved in knowing who my politicians are, what they’re about and what they’re doing for all of us. I’m not sure what this post is about other than sending my condolences and remembrance to those who lost someone due to 9/11.
My heart goes out to you and a prayer as well.
