Crucial Ballistix PC3200 512MB dying every few months!!!

I have 2×512MB Crucial Ballistix PC3200 memory in my current rig.  I do not overclock, everything is stock.  Not only that but I have a huge Ultra Panaflo fan blowing constantly over both DIMMs.  They’re both very cool to touch, it’s a tad bit warm but nothing like without having some type of active cooling.

Every few months I start to experience lock ups, blue screens and random corruption of downloads.  You may be thinking that it’s due to the nVidia nForce 4 onboard NIC but I don’t even use the onboard NIC anymore.  My cable modem connects to my computer via USB.  So I am not even using either NICs on the motherboard.  That rules out the theory of the bad nVidia NIC.  They’re also both disabled in the BIOS.

I am extremely upset with Crucial.  I mean they’re an awesome brand and I honestly don’t buy any other memory except for Crucial.  But having to RMA two sticks of memory every few months is becoming a PITA.  You may have read about the Crucial Ballistix PC4000 2×1GB or the 1GB sticks failing consistently like this but not the 512MB sticks!

I’m going to be picking up a Seasonic S12-600W PSU this coming week.  I hope this will clear up some of my problems as well.  I currently have a piece of shit Antec PSU.  DO NOT BUY ANTEC PSUS!!!!!!!!!!!!  They’re all CRAP!  Crap internal parts.  Seasonic all the way, for the win, can’t be beat.  Even though the price is a tad bit high, it’s worth in it so many ways.  I also read that PC Power and Cooling rebadge Seasonic units for some of their PSUs!!!!  Well, I’ll keep everyone update, this is definately time consuming and a PITA especially for my home box.  I do this all day at work and have to come home to do the same thing lol.  Oh well, that’s life.

nVidia nForce 4 chipset and IOGear KVM switches

I’m almost certain that this work around will fix the issue with IOGear KVM switches not working properly with nForce 4 chipset motherboards.

You know that add on USB port you receive with your motherboard?  The one that plugs in to the motherboard USB header?  I have that connected and installed into my case and I was using the IOGear MiniView USB KVM switch which apparently is not supposed to work directly with any nForce 4 chipset motherboard unless you’re using a PCI USB card and or a USB hub.  I guess not many people bother to install that extra piece that comes with their computer.  It worked for me and I don’t see why it won’t work for you.

I was able to switch between multiple computers, turned my machine on, off and then back on again.  Rebooting was no problems.  Not once did I experience the erratic mouse behavior that everyone describes.  I hope this will help you out!

Good Music Friday

For any of you who want to try out some new music, see if you can get a hold of music by the group called Atmosphere.  The group consists of an emcee named Slug and a DJ named Ant.  Great underground hip-hop group.  I doubt you’ll hear their stuff on mainstream radio but their music is groundbreaking.  It has content, it has meaning, it has flavor, it has great beats to bob your head to.  Just great all around.  If you wanna give it a try, I suggest listening to, “Don’t ever fucking quest that”, which is off their album called Lucy Ford.  In the song, Slug is talking to what seems to be his significant other in the form of a beautiful song.  Unable to speak what he would like in his own words perhaps at home, he easily and magnificantly describes what he is trying to get across.  Don’t question his love, he loves her.

I’ll try to get a song and group up perhaps every Friday.  If you like it, feel free to leave a comment.
