UFC 60: Royce Gracie vs Matt Hughes

UFC 60 has come and passed.  I was sickened to my stomach by watching Royce Gracie get dominated by the welterweight champion, Matt Hughes.  I hate Matt Hughes with a passion.  Local boy BJ Penn choked him the fuck out.  I can’t wait to see the rematch between Hughes and GSP.  I hope GSP chokes and beats the living day lights out of Matt.  I cannot stand his arrogance.  Why can’t he just be humble like most of the fighters?  I really dislike him with a passion.  He’s an arrogant, egotistical jackass.

After watching the fight again, I can honestly say hey, Matt won fair and square. He is awesome, he dominated someone who was thee pioneer of MMA. Matt did well and he does deserve his props.

I hate hughes as well but what do you expect when a geriatric comes out of retirement and fights the reigning champ? Let’s bring Sugar Ray out and fight DeLa Hoya…

I agree. Matt Hughes performed like a champion. Royce had to lose 15 pounds to get to 175 just a few days before the fight. If you really watched the fight you could tell that Royce was slower & weaker than he has ever been in a fight. I am not making excuses for Royce but, what was obvious was that the rapid weight loss was detrimental to Royces conditioning. I am very disappointed because Hughes may be very good but, Royce Gracie is one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time. He erred in his conditioning & was therefore really not prepared for the fight Hughes brought. Long live Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. Watch for Ryron Gracie.

Hughes is an Awesome athlete and Gracie should have had better sense, just like Shamrock should have better sense with Ortiz.
They all wanna believe that they can be like Foreman or Cotour (SP?) and be competitive until they’re middle aged, but the real fact is that most can’t.

As for Hughes being arrogant and others being ‘humble’, horsecrap.
Its the same ‘badass’ trash talking that nearly every athlete does. Hughes works his ass off to stay champion. That is something to take pride in.

Before the fight, I had read an interview with Hughes. He said something like; “If you take everything I’ve done and put it on paper…lay it out on the table, it would be a lot. There would be a lot there. What I haven’t done is beat a legend”. I think that’s a pretty arrogant statement. Hughes works his ass off. I’ll give him that. But that doesn’t change the fact that he’s an arrogant fuck. I’m not saying that Royce is Mr. Sportsmanship either. I actually found him on myspace and asked him why there isn’t any Gracie Jiujitsu in Wisconsin yet. He replied with “U pathetic fools so nobody would waste their time up there”. I responded by reminding him that the Miletich camp is out of Iowa and Iowa is not far from Wisconsin (this was a about a week after the fight with Hughes).

    Ben,

I can guarantee you that Royce Gracie would NEVER write that to one of his fans. That person is an impersonator. There are so many fakes on MySpace that it’s hard to keep track of. Royce is all class. Please don’t let that dick fool you. Whoever it was, it was an imposter. Royce Gracie has way more class than that. Plus I doubt he has time to make a MySpace page and keep track of it and also respond to questions. If you can, I’ll try and see if I can send him an e-mail and ask if that was really him. In all the personal e-mails I’ve sent to him, he has never once brushed me off or said anything remotely close to something like that. He would never brush off a fan like that.

    Sincerely,

    Ryan
