My source was right in that IE7 public beta 2 preview was being released some time this week. I hope you are all enjoying the preview. The build is build # 5296 which may be surprising to some in regards to the latest “leaked” build being 5299. This should not worry you at all. This build is much more stable than the 5299 build and there are reasons for why this build was released and not the 5299 build. If you visit the Internet Explorer blog, you will find posts in regards to why this build was released and the other was not.
The only thing I have issues with is that the amount of memory that is being used up when you open multiple tabs from a favorites group. People on the newsgroups are reporting that this isn’t happening to them but others are saying it is. It may actually have to do with computer hardware and various other configurations. At first when I uninstalled build 5299 and installed the public build, I ran into issues with the favorites not working. If I attempted to add a website to my favorites, I was prompted with something along the lines of “Class not registered.” When I came home from work, I couldn’t get it to work so I just uninstalled it from the control panels add/remove programs. I reinstalled it and the links are working fine now. So if you run into this issue, try uninstalling and reinstalling.
My freaking only gripe with IE7 is that it does not allow you to open a group of favorites from the “Links” toolbar. You’re probably thinking wtf is the “Links” toolbar. Here is a screen shot of what the “Links” toolbar is and what I am talking about, exactly. When you click on this particular folder, a drop down list of favorites appear; with FireFox, if I was to middle click or even right click on the folder, a new menu would appear with the latter or the entire group of favorites would open up with the former. With IE7, you middle click this folder and it opens up in an explorer window. IE7 treats it like it’s apart of the Windows Explorer and not Internet Explorer.
I already recommended this and a few other things on the IE blog site. A MSFT dev directed a comment at me and said that he will take this into consideration. I agree with a few newsgroup postings in that the customizability of IE7 or the lack thereof will lead to either the success or demise of IE7 IMHO.
Internet connection just stops working after five minutes. Symptoms, you cannot get to any web pages, no matter what you do; however, you’re able to ping, tracert and receive an IP address. More than likely what is happening is that there are remnants of an old firewall program still stuck on your computer? Possible left over registry entries from attempting to remove a firewall program such as Zone Alarm or CA EZ Trust Firewall. In my case, it was EZ Trust Firewall. I had removed whatever spyware was on this client’s computer, cleaned it up real nice, but the internet would just stop working after exactly five minutes. I attempted winsock fixes, etc, nothing worked. I finally caught on when I realized I saw this little pop up from my task tray that said something about my EZ Trust Firewall was disabled. I started searching through the registry and sure enough, there were still lots of entries with EZ Trust Firewall. I removed MOST of them thinking that was enough. I rebooted, waited, same thing happened. Then, I thought, perhaps if I reinstall the program I can uninstall it properly. Nope, you have to pay for the program or re-sign up using your Road Runner account e-mail address and password – something I did not have access to. So, I went back in, and found one more entry of EZ Trust, the only thing weird was it was under a Zone Alarm key. I just decided to delete it anyway. Reboot, wait, bam, internet works again after five minutes. Case closed.
So apparently, Nintendo finally unveiled their plans for their new and updated version of the Nintendo DS. That pisses me off! I just bought the red Mario Kart version and now they’re going to go and redesign it? WTF! This always happens. The new version looks good though. Changes are a little bit smaller and lighter, also an adjustable backlight. Controls look like they’ve been changed around. Here’s a pic from the Japanese Nintendo website.

Well no fucking shit it’s off to a slow start. First of all, there was a “shortage” that denied many people who were looking to purchase the console any Xbox 360 anyway. I mean no duh, that is kind of redundant, don’t you think? I would have to hope so.
I received word from a very reliable source that beta 2 should be coming soon and that it will be a few builds ahead of what was leaked. That made me very disappointed. If it’s anything near what the leaked 5299 beta is like, we’re in for a big surprise. For some, for some odd reason or another, it works fine. For others, it is a piece of crap that should not even have been released. I, for one, will be hopeful and hope that this release was far from what they will be releasing, if it is, great. If it’s similar in nature where it eats up memory and CPU cycles, I’m not going to like that. And it’s probably going to be the same thing; people are going to come out saying its great, better than FireFox, better than Opera, etc. Then, on the other hand, you’ll have people who have issues like ram/CPU hogging and that it doesn’t render pages properly.
Right now there is a nasty bug in the 5299 version where if you refresh a web page, it doesn’t render the page properly, anymore. Also like I mentioned before, my main concern is with opening up multiple tabs. That is one of thee best things that FireFox has to offer, IMHO. You can set a bunch of tabs up in your favorites to open via your favorites. In doing so, FireFox readily does this without taxing any resources on your computer. With IE7 beta 2 preview, your system resources are just unimaginably taxed to a breaking point where some people experience crashing of the browser and others just experience extreme sluggishness.
Here’s hoping to a brilliant MS product that will make me proud for saying I use Microsoft products. I guess it will also be a time where we can address these problems with the officials at MS instead of using leaked versions with no one to talk to about bugs. I’m glad they went with a public beta this time as we as testers, will find numerous bugs and we’ll all be able to report them. I truly hope you all test this browser out, test it as much to your ability as you can and send in bug reports. I’ll try to do a write up on how to send in a bug report when the browser is released. Anyhow, the next few weeks will be a waiting game!

This is an official piece of shit hardware device that serves no use other than looks. I can atest that this mouse’s button placement is very screwed up and if anyone found this entry via Google or another search engine by typing in Laser Mouse 6000 review, please take my advice and the advice of many others in that this mouse sucks, plain and simple. Microsoft just decided they had to put out a “laser” type of device/mouse and put it together without consulting actual gamers or even testing it for ergonomics. The way the front/back buttons on the left hand side are placed are very, how should I say this, fucked up? It’s much more forward than their previous mice and if you want to use said buttons, you’re going to have to strain your hands just a tad bit so that you can go either forward or back. Not to mention that yes, when you do this, you often press the right side button on accident. It is easy to press and I’ve read another review where they had to disable the right side button just so they wouldn’t accidentally click on it. So, in the end, Microsoft fucked up, big time. I wonder when they’ll eventually do a refresh of this mouse, though. I recall when they first started with the optical mice, they did a refresh at least once a year if I remember correctly. Anyhow, stay far away from this mouse until they get the button placement right.
I have my first project due tomorrow and I have not started on it yet. It has to do with PBX systems. Private Branch Exchange systems. I have to find a few that will support up to 80 users and in doing so, recommend one based on features, price and something else. It’s tedious and I really don’t know what I’m doing but I’m going to attempt to put something together before tomorrow.
This is a match that will definately NOT disappoint. I was surpised at how badly the Broncos lost to the Steelers. At the beginning of this NFL season, I recall nobody giving the Steelers a chance in hell on making it to the Superbowl this year. Even though last season they took themselves to the AFC championship game and lost to the New England Patriots. This year, it was different. They started off mediocre, had a decent record. The only reason I think they had those losses was that Big Ben was out injured. He plays a big part on this team’s offense. Him + Jerome “The Bus” Bettis, wreck shit up and just leave people in the dust. Their defense is an entirely different story. Troy Polumalu is an animal! He’s so small yet so explosive. He can rip through guys, juke them out and knock their helmets off!
Last weekend I really wanted Indy to win just because Peyton hasn’t seen a Superbowl, yet. In a few weeks, we’ll see who can do it and who can’t. I think the Steelers will take the Superbowl this year.
I tried it on a test box, it’s a mess. They implemented the menu and buttons from the Vista version. It’s a totally complete redesign of the GUI comapred to beta 1. The amount of ram it uses up on some web pages is just insane. I went to www.newzbin.com which is a Usenet resource page and my PF Usage sky rocketed to over 1.5GB. My CPU Usage history is a mess. With beta 1, it was rather stable. With beta 2 the CPU Usage goes haywire.
Another thing they didn’t get right is when you open a favorites group in tabs, about ten or more, your computer comes crawling to a halt. Your resources are maxed out. I did this with FireFox and my resources were untouched. MS is doing something wrong if FireFox can do this without taxing your system resources.
The box that I’m running IE on is no slouch either, 1GB memory, 2.2GHZ CPU, it isn’t slow by today’s standards, not really. Anyway, has anyone else gotten to try this piece of crap out yet? I’ve heard people say how fast it is, no problems, etc. It is slow and eats up a crap load of resources. Reminiscent of Norton products. I mean if they really think they are this close to releasing a beta 2 to the public, they have a whole world of hurt coming their way. I truly hope this is far from the actual beta 2 code because if it is, nobody is going to want to switch back from FireFox to IE.
Oh yeah, it doesn’t render this forum properly either. Beta 1 had no problems whatsoever.
Yes, I do know that this is a beta product and that I should treat it as such. But, when you are testing the beta 1 and then you install this, things should go from good to better. Not good to worse. That’s my logic behind this mini-review/rant.
Here are some screen shots of what I am talking about.

Ricco Rodriguez is a former UFC heavyweight world champion. His nick name is actually “Suave”. This guy used to probably weigh around 210lbs or less. He now looks like he weighs at least 300lbs+. Here is a picture of him fighting just a few months ago if not one month ago.

This is a picture of him a few years ago
