It looks like the word came straight from the horses mouth.  According to a post made at HardOCP by Dave Graham, Opterons are not going to be sold to non-system builders.  Speculation is that due to the server chips outselling the consumer line of chips, the A64 and X2s, AMD is not a happy camper.  It sucks because it just came out of left field and now it’s gone, just like that.  Get your Opterons while you can.
